Fire Restrictions in Smith River National Recreation Area

The Six Rivers National Forest is implementing fire-use restrictions within the Smith Rivers National Recreation Area (NRA)/Gasquet Ranger District and the Mad River Ranger District to protect natural resources and reduce potential fire starts and exposure to COVID-19 for employees and for public safety.
The release states that "Forest Order 20-10-10 prohibits building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire in the following developed recreation and fire-safe sites on the SRNF: Big Flat Campground, Watts Lake Campsite, North Fork Campground, Brown Canyon, Pappas Flat, 3 Forks, Chimney Flat, Crook Creek, Flat Camp, Developed Recreation Sites; Fire-Safe Sites"
Persons with a valid California Campfire Permit are not exempt from these fire-use restrictions. However, they may use a portable campfire pit, stove or lantern that uses gas, kerosene, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel, with a shut-off valve, in an area at least three feet from any flammable materials.
