Humboldt County Supervisor Mike Wilson announced last night that he is currently self-isolating after attending a California Coastal Commission meeting with a fellow commissioner who has tested positive and is now being treated for COVID-19.

In a Facebook post, Wilson said he has no symptoms and doesn’t recall being in close contact with commission Chair Steve Padilla but is taking the precaution after contacting “local health officials for advice and guidance.”

He notes that he was “hand sanitizing like a fiend” but will be working from home for the time being and will update the community if anything changes.

“These are strange times and our community will be relying on each other in ways we may never have expected,” Wilson wrote. “I’m sure we will live up to the task!”


Meanwhile, at least two school district have opted to close for at least a week while Humboldt State University will move away from in class instruction until April 17 and College of the Redwoods has extended spring break for a week in anticipation of a possible closure.

The county declared a local public health emergency last week.
