If you’ve been on the trails of Sequoia Park, closer to the zoo, you may have noticed that the Sequoia Park Zoo Redwood Skywalk appears to be finished, however, the Sequoia Park Zoo Foundation still has some final steps to take before opening the new attraction to the public.

According to a statement from the Sequoia Park Zoo Foundation’s media representative, beginning this month, city of Eureka “experts” will inspect the structures engineering and develop a safety monitoring plan, which will be sent to the Eureka Building Department that will then issue a certificate of occupancy if the skywalk passes the inspection. However, if there are follow-up questions, there may be additional inspections and a possible delay.

Once the certificate is authorized, a “tree health monitoring” and safety operational plan will be developed and the Eureka City Council will need to review a proposed fee schedule adjustments and make determinations on implementation.

And finally, the foundation will be testing customer experience to “ensure smooth operations, consistent applications safety protocols and COVID-19 distancing requirements are all appropriately implemented.”

But the highly anticipated walkway should be open sometime soon, according to the Sequoia Park Zoo Twitter page. Check out some of their tweets with photos of the skywalk below.
