Humboldt Records First COVID-19 Death

Posted By on Mon, May 18, 2020 at 8:12 AM

Humboldt County saw its first COVID-19 death Sunday, when a resident at Alder Bay Assisted Living who had been hospitalized died of the disease.

As of Saturday, Humboldt County had seen 77 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including an outbreak at Alder Bay that had seen six residents and two staff members test positive for the virus. The resident's death comes amid a spike in cases that has seen 22 people test positive since May 8.

In an email to local media, Joint Information Center Public Information Officer Heather Muller identified the resident as a 97-year-old woman.

“Our thoughts today are with her family and friends,” Muller wrote, adding that county Health Officer Teresa Frankovich would be issuing a “notification to all Humboldt County residents” later this morning.

We'll update this post with more information as it comes.
