I have reached through the black air

I have reached through the black air blinded
my fingertips passing into light

scalded, my face hands heart over hot coals red against the night
have risen cool and clear into the cloud cover

I have rested my broken head and swollen eyes my tired cheeks
curve of cheek against curve of cloud
and been comforted been given drink and rest

I have grieved oceans into oceans
from the kind clouds gone gray

I have flown by your side and on your back

I have escaped tearing talons eased through black air-
and broken through to light

I have flown by your side in your arms on your back

once I flew in the tip of the V
making the way easier
