Equinox

Hard knocks both ways,
the sun beating back the shade,
clinging to its steamy ways,
the other clawing its darkling way to the fore.
Unimaginable forces in massy balance,
and Libra, sign of the Balance, rising
with the tardy dawn, the first frosts
lingering just out of reach,
blackening pumpkins sagging in coastal rains --
but for now, what the hell, sun's out,
hoops and hacky sack in the plaza!
