Break Through

Isn't it interesting that lately

Out of the corner of my mind

I sometimes glimpse

Our grey cat of thirty no forty

No fifty years ago

When I start to reach to pet him

Without thinking of course he is too quick

And slips silkily away

But he has visited more than once

And I am starting to wonder

In moments when time stops

And I feel almost elsewhere

Where he comes from

See he should be with Mom in heaven

But I still see scars from old fights

And just the other day

I heard him squalling in the night
