GPS and NAUTICAL CHART classes

The two-day course begins on Saturday. You will cover how to read, use and plot courses on nautical charts, and how to use latitude and longitude with the tools available for your use. Sunday, you will focus on how the system works, the different functions navigating between screens and actually using a GPS. Course participants who already own hand-held GPS units are encouraged to bring them to the class or you will be paired up with a person that has one. The last part of the class will be spent working with the GPS units outside finding way points and following a route The course is offered by the Coast Guard Auxiliary at the Southwestern Community College Curry Campus in Brookings from 12:30 to 4:30, April 30 & May 1 or May 21 & 22.
