It looks authentic, and it is, up to a point. The legions of Hoover haters were hoping it was true, but no “fellow” actually bought The Eye.
The less exciting truth: The email exchange between Monica and Alex is excerpted from a multi-party exchange among the Bat ‘n’ Rouge Pom Pom squad regarding a proposed intrasquad cocktail party. The chain spread further than intended when someone hit “reply all” and sent it to a long list of folks connected with Bat ‘n’ Rouge, apparently including the local Julian Assange.
One of the items auctioned off at the Arcata Eye Ball in January was a night drinking martinis with the Pom Pom Queens, at Alex Stillmans’ house. That is the party and “the fellow” Alex is referencing when she says “the fellow who bought the Arcata Eye…party at my house.”
If you add the word “martini” where there’s an ellipsis, the sentence reads quite differently. As Pom Pom girl Monica noted, “Punctuation is all important.”

I was hoping to let that metastasize a bit longer so everyone’s theories could fester into the usual phlegmilicious froth… but it was fun while it lasted.
I do believe the original thought that started the rumor is incorrect as well. Bill Hole, spouse of NCJ’s own Colleen Hole, won the martini party at Alex’s house and collected. I am reasonably certain I was there
I sent the orginal email and I have no clue who Julian is…(not on my orginal email list)—but thanks for the PR…..Bat N Rouge 2011 is scheduled for Friday, September 9 at the Arcata Ball Park with proceeds designated to the Arcata Ridge Trail Project. It’s going to be a blast so watch for details.

Patrick, the Sisters accidentally double-sold the cocktail party at Alex’s. Rather than tell one of the winning bidders that the party was off, Alex graciously said she would just hold two parties. But we haven’t heard from the other person. That’s what Alex’s e-mail was actually saying.

Assumedly, Ms. Hole, “collected” her prize (party), last year, around September; you are saying that they waited until, now, to satisfy the, newly asserted, second party obligation…something does not add up. Perhaps, my scalar calculus is a bit rusty.
