As you know if you read this week’s paper, Eureka’s monthly arts night, Arts Alive! takes place Saturday night and many of you be out and about.

Occasional Journal contributor Jim Hight produced this fine little vid extolling the many virtues of Arts Alive with Benjamin Bettenhausen handling camera duties. Our own art critic R.W. Evans is among those interviewed. You’ll also see accordionist Rick Fugate (our pick as Best Arts Night Noisemaker) and a lot more creative types doing what they do. Take a few minutes and watch it. You’re sure to see someone you know.

  1. This petition is for you to copy and print and wake people up around you!!! Every signature counts!

As concerned constituents and citizens of Humboldt County, we write
    to you for your support!
It is a known fact that the Arcata Community Recycling Center and Reusable
Depot and Thrift Store is set to close January 14th. We the people of
Humboldt County request for the Reusable Depot and Thrift Store to remain
open. We encourage the ACRC, City of Arcata and the County of
Humboldt to take all possible actions to ensure the continuation of this operation.
The resale store is an invaluable asset to Arcata and to many Humboldt County
residents. The largest success of this operation has been and can still be
the diversion of non-recyclable items from the landfill back to our houses, offices,
studios and yards. This is one of the only place to buy affordable
materials for students, artists, builders, gardeners and the like.
Our future on this planet and in this community rely’s on the ability of our
community to have a successful, sustainable, and reasonable way to access
and maintain the recycling way of life. The ACRC’s Reusable Depot and Thrift
    Store supports this community awareness.
Let’s find a solution to keep this asset in our community. Any one interested in
helping with this campaign please contact:
