Check it out, mon! The new video from Arcata reggae bros Woven Roots is all about representin’ da Humboldt values: sustainable agriculture, a locavore diet and respect for women. Respek!

How do we know they respek da ladies? Because the video says so in a warning right up front. It says “No Women … were disrespected in this film.” Boom. Neither were chickens, eggs or Swiss chard, thank god. (This chard oppression must end.)

The singer in the video has a bomb-ass chicken coop out in-a his front yard. On his humble farm he raises chickens, grows leafy green veggies and fertilizes his Jamaican accent.

There’s also a woman on the farm who helps out with a variety of chores: feeding the livestock, picking vegetables, rubbing hens on her boobs and gyrating in a gold lamé bikini while she’s closed up in the chicken coop like some super-sexy farm animal.

Now, touchy P.C. feminist types might find some of the imagery distasteful — the ass close-ups, the woman-in-a-cage business, the slo-mo garden hose facial. Please. Must I refer you back to the disclaimer up top? It clearly said no women were disrespected. That includes you. Also, they want you to know that “This video is intended to Inform, Entertain and Humor the People”!

Color me all three! Rastafari!

  1. Wow. Incredibly well made.
I was actually listening to Amish Paradise by Weird Al, but that worked too.

  2. That is the best music video ever. The three disclaimers, humor… proper. Look at every rap video and mainstream video. They’re all about money, cars, vanity, and a bad word for women. These guys grow food. Gangster! Next one should be on a yacht that has aquaponic gardens that use reverse osmosis to desalinate sea water to grow veggies.

  3. Rastafernia is way more sexist than I thought. If Jah’s cool with portraying women like this, it helps to explain the hate music as well. Conscious? Yeah, whatever, smoke another bowl.

  4. Good for Wooven Roots, good quality video too.People have their panties in a bunch since that Capleton show. Should’ve put some gay chickens in the video to please everyone, maybe next time.

  5. Sometimes in order to get in the wolf’s den you have to wear the wolves clothing. we didn’t make this video to appeal to all the chicken farmers in Humboldt County, we made it to appeal to the masses that have never seen a chicken coop, have never even heard of swiss chard or sustainable agriculture and maybe just maybe they got a lesson and learned a little because along the way we threw some sexiness and comedy in their to keep them watching. in todays world and I agree its sad but the only way you get through to the masses via a visual medium is with sex, comedy or violence… and again we didn’t make a video to preach to the choir of conscious sustainably practicing liberali’s. we made a video to stimulate change in the mass consciousness. but when you do that you are going to upset your core followers….I’ve never been able to make everyone happy and read HATE mail addressed to me DAILY. fuel for my artistic side.

  6. Twirling a pitchfork, used to shovel manure, around in a chicken coop with a barely clothed woman… I can only imagine how the shades she’s wearing are hiding how her eyes were keeping up with the pitchfork every time he waved it around, ready to jump back if necessary. Certainly made me nervous to watch it.

  7. He sure has the Jamaican accent gimmick down, good for him. Probably honed it from years of living in his parent’s basement listening to gender demoralizing dancehall tracks. Roots!
