Press release from the Eureka Police Department:
On 9-15-2012 at about 6:42 am, officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at Mr. Fish (2740 Broadway).
Upon arrival, officers found a door of the business had been forced open and it appeared items had been taken. The business owner was contacted and requested to respond. While awaiting the owner’s arrival, officers deployed a K-9 to attempt to track the suspect(s).
The K-9 led officers to the greenbelt area just northwest of Mr. Fish where they located, Shannon Lyn Hodgden (38 years old of Eureka). Hodgden was in possession of items believed to have been stolen from the business. The business owner later identified the items.
Hodgden was taken into custody for possession of stolen property and probation violation. Hodgden in on active probation for theft related offenses. Hodgden was soon transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and is being held on $25,000 bail.
This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding this matter is urged to contact Sergeant Patrick O’Neill at 707-441-4081 ext. 6.

It looks like caps-lock disables spell check on some platforms. And isn’t “Baby Gal” a suspiciously tweakerish name?
If someone from the North Coast Journal watches comments, I urge you not only to tell people that violent, hateful comments will be erased, but actually erase (take down) posts that are violent and hateful. I believe it is alright to have some narrow restrictions for posting, agreements of use. I do not wish to read someone suggesting to wipe people out!
Perhaps the Journal could also truly consider peoples’ vulnerability when their photo is posted here, especially given the meanness of the attitudes expressed by people who have the privilege and time to comment on this blog.
And we wonder how it is people have been killed while sleeping outside in Humboldt County… The above comments (until they are un-posted) are horrible examples for young people.
Lastly- Did anyone (i.e. Andrew) find out what the cops DID TO Shannon once they allegedly found some “items believed to have been stolen” from the Fish shop? Does anyone from the media ever investigate that? Certainly, regardless of what some ignorant mean commenters think, getting beat up, threatened to be shot, slammed violently, and having all of your stuff thrown out or destroyed (just some educated guesses, from years of such incidents) is surely not the legal punishment or the duty of the cops if they suspect someone stole something… right?
“Did anyone (i.e. my boyfriend) find out what the cops DID TO Shannon once they allegedly found “items believed to have been stolen” from the Fish shop?”……..the E.P.D. took Shannon to jail, because that’s what happens to tweakers that rip people off.
Verbena complains about insensitive comments, but then goes on to imply that the police officers may have “beat up, threatened to [shoot}, slammed violently” the suspect.
My sympathies are with Mr. Fish and other victims (who likely never recovered any of their possessions) of Hodgden.
