I didn’t see mention about the dramatic reorganizations just getting started at the U. Reorganization includes departments having to share chairs, but will likely also involve some programs merging in various ways. It will be difficult to get through the cuts without looking at program eliminations as well, perhaps informed by the prioritization report. Meanwhile some recent hires are leaving, and older faculty are retiring, and we can’t replace them. Course cancellations and chairs teaching more classes ultimately means lecturers bearing the brunt of the layoffs. HSU cannot avoid being diminished by these budget cuts.
