Eureka is looking to possibly break a heat record for this date today, according to the National Weather Service, with the office on Woodley Island reading 75 degrees just before 1 p.m.
That number ties the record set back in 2009 and 1927, according to a tweet this afternoon.
Meanwhile, there is slight chance of some light rain on the North Coast today, but the best chances of what would be a most welcome sight in a region hit hard by wildfire will be over inland areas on Friday.
“Overall, rainfall totals should be light with the greatest amounts expected farther north near the Oregon border across Del Norte and northern Humboldt counties,” a NWS Facebook post states. “Rain chances and totals will otherwise decrease with southward extent across Trinity, Mendocino, and Lake counties.”
