The crowd gathered in a circle for the reading of the names of the victims.
Duane Leal (holding the rainbow flag), of Eureka brought multiple family members to the vigil Monday evening. Leal, who identifies as gay, brought five children from his family, saying that this is part of American history they will remember.
Imam Jamila Tharp of the Redwoods Unity Mosque Initiative, spoke during the vigil, representing both the Muslim and LGTBQ communities.
