A 77-year-old McKinleyville man was found dead this morning, 36 hours after he was reported to have been sent home in a ride service following his release from a local hospital around 10 p.m. on July 7.

According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, James Jaworski’s family said he never made it to his residence in the 2100 block of Terra Vista Place. He was last seen in the vicinity of his neighborhood wearing a sweatshirt but no pants or shoes, a news release states.

A search and rescue effort by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Special Services Division, in conjunction with the HCSO Search and Rescue (SAR) Team and California Rescue Dog Association K9 teams, was initiated on July 8 in the area. The CHP also issued a Silver Alert.

According to the sheriff’s office, Jaworski was found by search teams just before 10 a.m. today “within the designated search area” and the cause and manner of his death are under investigation, with an autopsy pending.

“The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office offers its heartfelt condolences to the Jaworski family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the release states.
