But enters into some kind of weird JOA with the T-S?

Quoth the Dean:

“It’s satisfying to prevail in battle but, as one who loves newspapers, it’s sad to see one go away, but I’m glad the Reporter’s spirit will live on in the pages of the Times-Standard,” Singleton said.

Cold blood, folks — that’s what wins newspaper wars.

UPDATE: The deal is for the T-S to publish the Reporter‘s op-ed pages twice a week. The newsroom, apparently, is gone.

And “deal” is the right word, it seems. Singleton was in town today.

  1. Another sign of how badly things have turned south for Rob Arkley’s finances. He promised the Eureka Reporter would not go away. Wonder what other committments he won’t be able to keep.

  2. I wonder if this is some kind of settlement of the T-S’s unfair business practices suit against the ER. That might explain the strange decision to print the ER’s editorials twice a week.

  3. THe Eureka Reporter was one of the greatest newspapers in the history of journalism!!!! H.L Mencken would have had a hard time getting a job there because he might not have had the talent to compete. My God, it was like reading War and Peace everyday and…excuse me as I take another hit on my bong….like I was saying, the Reporter really brought perspective and solace to all of us poor dung beetles on the North Coast rolling aorund our little balls of dung and coming up with philosophy we can use….Uh, yeah. Those editors at the ER were Heroes!!! With a little mustard on the side, please! Oh I love you all so much I can hardly stand it!!! Flap to all of your dunderheads!! Long live the ER!!!! flap.

I have the same question. But what a bad deal. Hannaford’s irrelevant ramblings are outdated and generally not local.

  5. Just wait a few months. All you people praising the demise of the ER will be begging for that newspaper to come back when you see how news is reported in an environment without competition. good luck to all the journalists displaced by this horrific event.
