Hundreds turned out on Fortuna’s Main Street this afternoon to welcome home the city’s state champion high school football team.
The Fortuna High School Huskies outscored Katella High School 26-6 in the second half of Saturday’s CIF State Division 5-A title game to take the championship by a commanding 54-33 score. The team spent Sunday celebrating at Disneyland and returned home this afternoon, complete with a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office escort.
Main Street was lined with fans waiting to greet the team. Our photographer Jillian Butolph was there and shares the following slideshow.

Was this a sanctioned, permitted event complete with b&b’s with sheriff’s department as the “event organizer”? Or, unsanctioned and unpermitted?
Double Standards?
Rex Bohn, shmoozing for pictures after it all ended, of course……regular season games never attended…..
How many games did you attend hench, or are you just playing Monday morning sour grapes? How ugly does a life have to be, to make ugly remarks from announimity, on a season, these young people will never forget. Shame on you coward.
HOJ a coward is funny, Mac Wick is demonstrating her insincere meme projection yet again……Anonymity is like/dislike, how ugly and cowardly……as expected, 2 party system voters…….
Hench wasn’t shmoozing, Bohn was……Bohn is an elected official, and are you saying now that he did attend a regular season game Mac Wick??? Or, just defending the indefensible jump on the bandwagon types who use children’s hard work to steal a photo op or few ……and the kids don’t give a horse’s patooey about an elected offical rubbing shoulders with adult voters who should know whether or not the person who is posing for pictures ever even showed up to regular season games…..especially the milk can trophy game…..
HOJ’s budgetary concern is a matter of law and user permits, so no need to include children in your rant……it is not practical or legal to expect children to follow adult rules, but adults are not children…… surely you’d agree Mac Wick on these three criteria:
1) it ain’t about the children, it’s about tax dollars and processes for special events…
2) It is wrong for county government to waste sheriff resources on a city function that the Fortuna Police Department is responsible for…..too many crimes going on in county jurisdiction to provide services for a city function, a city purpose.
3) Fortuna is not the county team, so county resources being spent does raise questions.
Sincerely,
An intellectual………
I dont know, I think the parents and community are happy for them, parents and coaches have to do a lot and possibly sacrifice to support their kids with things like this.
Response:
Sure, im happy for them too, but what HOJ wrote has to do with “why is the county providing a service for a city function”. Its Fortuna’s team, not the County…..and why is the community so fickle to not celebrate in like kind for THEIR girls soccer team that went as far as the structure allows…..? Again, people who can’t see the forrest of the thought through the trees of prejudice.
