Think the all the hoopla surrounding the impending end of the Mayan calendar is a bunch of malarkey? Not so fast, skeptic! While we haven’t seen any lions loungin’ with lambs just yet, check this out this piece of local visual WTF-ness.

The Journal‘s secret Old Town telephoto lenses picked up some shared supervisorial sentimentality between Rex Bohn and Mark Lovelace recently. Freaky, right! Whether it was adorable tandem cycling, partaking in caloric delights, or sharing a chuckle over the general plan, the two county supervisors seemed to put politics aside for an afternoon to enjoy their own awkward rom-com movie montage. Cue up Herman’s Hermits!

And that’s not the only sign that the end is upon us! This week the Journal has collected numerous indicators of our coming demise in a special End of the World edition, being shoved into newsstands county-wide today and tomorrow.

Pick one up … while you still can.

  1. Was Rex able to get his son cleared of any charges stemming from his house raid arrest? He was protecting Rex’s herb “investment,” so daddy owes T-Bohn big time!!

  2. Poor Verbena…if we do not talk about what she wants..then she resorts to her classic name calling….now the Journal is “fluff, hipster”….he he ….she is such a joke!

  3. $80,000/year is plenty to make the average county resident hide their ideological rants in a dark place.

  4. How can Johnny Maniac refer to a comment by Verbena when it is not posted in this thread? I know the answer and I don’t like it. The North Coast is censoring her posts. Why? She is one of the most important and effective political activists in Humboldt County. I and others do want to read her opinions. I mean, this thread has advertisements for Timberland Boots and the Northface Outlet. Apparently the Journal values commercial speech over community speech. Given that the City of Arcata just passed an initiative declaring that “corporations are not people,” it disgusts me that the Journal is choosing to side with the immoral Citizens United SCOTUS decision which declared the opposite. The people of Arcata have set the standard for democracy in Humboldt County. The Journal needs to embrace this standard, not undermine it.

  5. I second RobDon. Why bother censoring Verbena? It is hard to imagine she would have posted anything other than a critique of this article, the actions of the people in it, or the Journal itself. The Journal has plenty of voice to speak back with, and so, evidently, do people who disagree with Verbena. And if she is saying awfully unreasonable, inappropriate stuff, I’d like to know, because until I know otherwise, she seems perfectly respectable to me. If she is being verbally abusive or manipulative (‘If she doesn’t get what she wants, she name-calls’-JM), let me see it in print, and I can witness it for myself. Not censoring a thread like this may be educational in more ways than one. Please let the words fly. Thank you.
