If you think you’ve got a snazzier name for our local airport than the current lame “Arcata/Eureka Airport” moniker than speak up now, citizen! In a press release issued today, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors announced it is seeking public input for a new airport name. Send your ideas to nametheairport@gmail.com.
One caveat: the board really, really wants the new name to include the words “Humboldt” and “Redwoods.” So, seemingly, “Bob Marley Memorial Airport” is out. Good luck, wordsmiths!
Full press release below:
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday decided that the County will explore the idea of renaming the Arcata-Eureka Airport, and they invited the public to submit their thoughts and possible names for consideration. One of the goals of this project is to make the airport easier to find for those interested in coming to Humboldt County.
The Board of Supervisors agreed that the County’s glorious Redwood trees are a feature that sets this area apart from others and draws significant interest from visitors. In addition, the public has shown interest in incorporating the County’s name into the airport’s title. The Board of Supervisors is requesting that the airport’s name include the terms “Redwoods” and “Humboldt.”
If you would like to submit your ideas for the airport’s new name, please send an email to nametheairport@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 26.

Well, isn’t that really silly saying it wants people’s input? They’re going to call it the Humboldt-Redwoods Airport.
Charlie where from that press release do you get the name has been decided? Are you privy to some crystal ball? Or special insight? They asked for input. I submitted a suggestion.
Next time try reading twice before you hit that enter button on a comment.

Fog Bunker Airport
How about “John Chiv Airport”?
We’ve survived this long with the Arcata/Eureka Airport located somewhere near McKinleyville. Why bother changing it?
What about the fact that the code for the airport assigned by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) is ACV? Will they change that too? What will that do to the air traffic controllers and all the computer systems that rely on the code?
As the Arcata-Eureka Airport (ACV) is one of the more important Regional Airports on the Northwest coast of the USA, it should have a dignified name. I propose: HUMBOLDT REDWOOD REGIONAL AIRPORT in McKinleyville, CA.[HRC-(Coast) or HRV-(Victorian)] as airport code. My father Lester Holmes kept his Cessna 195 at Arcata during the 50’s and I had my Cessna 172 based there in the 80’s& 90’s.Thanks for allowing my input. Scott Holmes MD
The press release only says that they want those words in the name, not that those are the only two words they will allow. “Humboldt California Redwood Coast Regional” would be acceptable.
They are not going to change the airport code from ACV for the complications you talked about, plus it would be even more costly. Be original and take this as an opportunity to leve your mark on our county instead of bitching about anything you can!
Keep the airport code. Name it Awesome Cannabis Views.
How the heck is “Humboldt” and “Redwoods” gonna flow together in re-naming the airport? If this is the supes attempt at community involvement, then it will be a failure…….as if the supes don’t have MORE IMPORTANT issues to discuss like job creation opportunities; or, a dysfunctional county sheriff’s department with a bunch of rogue street deputies on the prowl sticking their forked tongues at their victims.
Anyhow, how much time, energy, effort and tax dollars will go into this lameoid contest? Have the supes considered using their gouging salaries to pay for such waste? $86,000.00 + benefits and perks and this is all the supes can come-up with. Hopefully, Estelle steps-up and nips this in the bud. Hope she won’t fall prey to the illogic! – HOJ
ncj, get a noose around the necks of these here spambots; your site should have better defense against rambunctious rouge rapscallions than this!
ACV, “Awesome Cannabis Views” is as good as you’re gonna get. Ever. Mad props.
How about the “Should-have-been-in-Blue-Lake-and-your-flight-is-canceled” airport?

SELL the naming rights, don’t waste our money for no good reason. Post a minimum bid and see what happens.
Many airports are named for the cities they serve, but are actually located miles outside those cities. It’s not the name that’s important — it’s the number of incredibly overpriced, delayed and canceled flights that are. Let’s direct our attention elsewhere.
Dude like we should name it “Quake and Bake Airport” and have the FAA change from “ARC” to “THC”
Oh yeah, and the folks in the Bay Area should rename the international airport because it isn’t in San Francisco? This is undoubtedly the first of many upcoming Bohn headed ideas to fill the gaps when the developers aren’t telling him what to do and say.
Really, High School ISN’T adequate educational accomplishment to be a supervisor, and this “important issue” shows exactly why.
Why the fuck would both “Humboldt” and “Redwoods” be in the title? What a stupid idea.
The BOS has several options:
and time.
you waste my time and yours
OUTLET////??????
Finally, voters got rid of nearly all the liberal supervisors and we can start wasting public money on our frivolous agenda.
If we change the name of the United States, maybe some jobs will start to return.
Where’s the leadership?
