There are still more votes out there for the Fourth District — other mail-in ballots that will not be counted tonight — so there is still a very slim possibility that Virginia Bass could grab this outright.

Two WTF’s in one report:
(1) STILL zero precincts reporting from the 5th District, while the entire 4th is all done? WTF? Is that normal?
(2) Bryson STILL has over 5% of the vote in the DA’s race!? She’s got 25% of Hagen’s total even though she withdrew from the race!?
That always happens. Remember when that dude withdrew from the water board race in McKinleyville months before the election and still WON?
In the elections office it’s first come, first served. Eureka is the closest to the office, so it gets processed first.
Oh, nevermind then.
But I do wonder who will capture more of Bryson’s 5%, or whether most of them will just sit out the Gallegos/Jackson runoff.
Most of 5th Dist’s equip goes to the Sheriff’s substation in McKinleyville. As far as I know, they can’t leave until all precincts have turned in equipment.
Arcata probably drops off at APD? (just a guess), and once they have everything, they drive it all into the elections office in Eureka.

That 5% still voting for Bryson is representative of all the disenchanted lawyers in the community, unwilling to vote for Gallegos, Jackson or Hagen because they know them–and they’ve got a wry sense of humor. In a world where democracy simply means a choice between candidate A, B or C, why not?
