The folks over at the Humboldt County Convention and Visitors Bureau want you to know that Outside Magazine selected Eureka as one of the best towns in the America, ranking it No. 8 on a list of 20. The blurb incudes shout-outs to the
Accident Gallery
, the Boardwalk, the
Arkley Center
(identified as the Sweasey Theater) and
Humboldt Baykeeper
. Not sure why they chose to illustrate a piece on Eureka with a photo of the mouth of th Mattole, but that’s what they did. (Click on images to enlarge.)
Another interesting note: the list of largest employers, topped by the
city of Eureka
, also includes the
Times Standard
.

Surely you jest. Has the rest of the world really gone downhill this fast?
Ogden UT? Maybe if you are white, white and maybe Mormon.
ive got a feeling that 99% of the readers of “outside magazine” are white folks.
so….ogden isn’t much different than eureka.
What a joke! I pity the fool who succumbs to this article.
It reads like it was written by someone who just schmoozed with the Eureka Chamber’s representative at some travel convention. It has so many inaccuracies. Whoever wrote it clearly never actually visited Eureka.
This story is just shonk-n-awe from the hedge funds, combined with their high in the water ship parked near a pulp mill nightmare.
Mattole is pictured because if they pictured Eureka everyone would laugh.
Sacramento is on the list. And real estate is tanking sooooooooo fast here.
This isn’t april 1st is it.
What a damn joke. Looks like that magazine has no credibility.
This place is truly a hell hole.
