In our weekly cartoon feature in the Jan. 25, 2018, edition of the North Coast Journal, we ran a photo collage submitted by cartoonist Terry Torgerson showing signs from the Jan. 20 Women’s March on Eureka. It has since come to our attention that Torgerson used photos he found on Facebook, including some taken by Lost Coast Outpost photographer Andrew Goff. The Journal regrets using the photos without the necessary permissions and credits.

  1. If the photo is accessible through digital means, no permission is necessary……despite this newfound local media agenda to give credence to photos as being necessary to get permission to use…….permission was waived once Andrew Scoff uploaded to a site where pics are easily copied and saved……and no law dictates that a picture must be accompanied by the naming of it’s original taker (although a respectful person might)…….so, if ya want exclusive rights, then go through the expensive copyrights process, all pics become property of business (not photographer)……which means Scoff and others gotta go solo to protect their pics under copyright…….local media are just plane desperate folks because few consumers trust them after reading so many lame-ass write ups…..and the comments are typically great at analysing the media mea culpa crux.
