suggests the temblor occurred along the Mendocino fault zone. The USGS recorded it at a depth of 6.8 miles. Lots more data

  2. On Don Garlick’s ‘Sophie Smells a Shaker’ in your Feb. 4 issue, thanks much for an informative article. I just would like to add that in my opinion, animals are given too much credit for such things. Study the video carefully, and not far behind the dog, a swivel chair is rotating with the help of the temblor. The chair moves and rotates a couple times BEFORE the dog takes off. The animal saw and felt and reacted to the quake in the same way us humans do. It doesn’t appear that the dog had any foreknowledge of the quake’s coming.
