So counties and health officials are again thinking about requiring all people to wear masks regardless of vaccination status (A Pandemic of the Unvaccinated,” July 22). This is an unnecessary and wrong idea, because virtually every COVID death and hospitalization occurs in the unvaccinated. The numbers in your article bear this out: no deaths among the fully vaccinated, and only two of 222 hospitalizations!
A better approach is to stop coddling the anti-vaxxers! If you refuse to be vaccinated, then you face the consequences. But don’t expect those of us who did the right thing personally and socially by getting vaccinated to cover for you. Our reward should be to live mask-free — and it can be your reward, too.
As for those who can’t be vaccinated yet — like children under 12 — they can and should wear masks. Those whose health is compromised even after getting jabbed, by all means mask up. Those of you are vaccinated but fear the newest mutation, feel free to wear a mask.
But leave the rest of us alone!

Unfortunately Sir, You must not be aware of the CDC studies that report heavy Delta variant viral load in vaccinated people. It is similar to that of unvaxed people. That is the reason for all of us to wear masks and minimize the spread. Please spread the word
I was wondering if this letter was reflective of ignorance or selfishness. But when I got to the part about people who can’t get vaccines needing to mask up–while he won’t –I saw selfishness.

Estimate about 10% of the guests and 30 to 40% of the employees (cast members) wearing masks.
Interesting concept, the whole “mask wearing” thing, but no thank you very much. I’m good.
By the way, my cherry tomatoes I’m growing are very yummy. I estimate I have several thousand… Yummy yummy yummy in my tummy…
I can see you do not understand the concept, Mr Sanborn, that masking is not protecting the wearer as much as preventing spread of the virus, and even those who have been vaccinated can have a viral loads, especially with the new Delta Variant, which is like Covid on steroids….MUCH more infectious. And the vaccinated can get sick with symptoms, although not as serious.
So, please, read before you open your mouth.
