'Educate Yourself'

I write in reply to last week’s rather myopic letter concerning immigration (Mailbox, May 8). This letter, “Wailing and Gnashing,” expresses the standard dog whistles concerning former President Biden’s immigration policies. Those educated on the topic know this is a long standing problem contributed to by both major parties in power. It is an attempt to side track us all concerning the multiple and major destructive policies going on in the federal government at this moment in history, and placing blame on the immigrant population who are attempting to escape the horrid conditions in their home countries that the U.S.A. has fomented in past decades.

I would hope the population of this country has a broader concept of how we reached this dysfunctional state of being. The current president is incapable of understanding any broader concepts, and charges ahead with uneducated statements to appeal to those who do not care to educate themselves on the “why” and “how” we now are experiencing the attempted destruction of our democratic republic. If you are not educated on the issues and are responding in a knee jerk manner to your emotions, which are being dog whistled to you by the current administration, you are part of the problem. Educate yourself. And unless you are Native American you and your family descend from immigrants. The original immigrants to this country, white male colonizers from Europe, had no problem exterminating the native populations in this country. It is time we stop hating cultural differences.
