Blue Lake is at a turning point. The current council majority has repeatedly ignored California’s council/manager system, where the council sets policy and staff carry it out. Instead, they interfered.
Their first major act was delaying the Housing Element for a year without justification, triggering deadlines, potential fines and action from the California Department of Housing and Community Development, even though the document was already prepared by experts and recommended by the Planning Commission.
They then removed the city manager who had secured a 45‑unit affordable housing project with commercial space. This misstep sparked a recall effort, and the consequences continue. Attempting to cancel the DANCO agreement prompted pushback and a renewed state investigation under the Housing Accountability Act.
Blue Lake needs competent, lawful governance. I endorse Adelene Jones and Charis Bowman, experienced leaders who understand the role of staff and commissions and can restore forward momentum for our community.
