  1. Its well drawn and fun and thoughtful Joel as your work usually is.

    But seeing that Heidi has an article with solstice thoughts in it too – I don’t know, it seems unnecessary. It’s a conflict with the right I just have zero interest in. There are 3 other chances in the calendar to pass along similar justified science notes, but I see no need to crow my agnostic lack-of-faith in this season.

    I do feel the spirit of the season, for whatever reason. I think one of the reasons is the bipolar (no pun intended) relationship “the season” has with capitalism. On the one hand most retailer’s bottom lines are achieved in this season, on the other the sanctity of the 25th is (or at least was) partially recognized by the absence of commerce.

    I think our society would be best served if we continued the trend of de-emphasizing commerce and getting back to spirituality – and for some that is Christianity and Christmas and that is just fine – in fact preferred – by me. (as is Islam, or Judaism, or Wiccan, or UU, or Bhuddist, or Sufi, or…….)
