Due to the sharp rise in local cases and hospitalizations associated with the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus, a number of organizations are announcing the cancelation or postponement of their events in the interest of public safety. Eureka’s Friday Night Market on Aug. 6 is postponed until further notice (see press release below), as is the Buddy Brown Music Festival on Aug. 7 (see press release below). The Morris Graves Museum of Art is canceling its participation in Arts Alive this Saturday, Aug. 7, as well as its Wine & Jazz program for this month (see statement below).
The Journal’s own Best of Humboldt party, scheduled for Friday, Aug. 6, is also postponed. We will do our very best to keep you informed of further cancelations. Check the online calendar for event changes and contact information.
Statement from Humboldt Made regarding the Eureka Friday Night Market:
Given the steep rise in cases and hospitalizations associated with the Delta variant in Humboldt County, Humboldt Made is postponing the Eureka Friday Night Market until further notice.
“In the best interest of our community, small businesses and health care workers, we are postponing the market. We look forward to bringing people together when it is safe to do so. We simply cannot risk hosting an event that could aid in the further spread of COVID 19 within our community, especially during this time of increased infection and hospitalization.”
Alanna Powell, Executive Director of Humboldt Made.
Statement from Humboldt Folklife Society regarding the Buddy Brown Music Festival:
Out of concerns for public safety, and in response to the recent request from the Public Health Department to postpone large public events, the Humboldt Folklife Society regretfully has decided to postpone the Buddy Brown Blues Festival, which was to be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021, Perigot Park, Blue Lake, CA. Humboldt County has recently seen a surge in Covid cases, and the Folklife Society would want to host the festival under the best of
circumstances, when the infection rate is lower. We are grateful to the many volunteers who were planning on coming, and to the musicians who were looking forward to performing in front
of a live audience, and to blues music lovers who must wait until the infection rate is lower. Deep appreciation to our Festival sponsors, Green Diamond Resource Company, Pierson’s, KHUM – KWPT The Point, Lost Coast Brewer, and Low and Slow BBQ. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait a whole year to do this again!
Statement from the Humboldt Arts Council in the Morris Graves Museum of Art:
In the best interest of our community the Humboldt Arts Council in the Morris Graves Museum of Art has decided to not host August Arts Alive as planned. The Morris Graves Museum of Art welcomed over 400 masked visitors for the July Arts Alive and given the current rise in cases we don’t want to encourage large gatherings but rather encourage everyone to enjoy our exhibitions during regular museum hours, Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. when museum attendance is lower and is safer to do so.

Thank God for government. We the sheeple need guidance. The bigger and more controlling the government…the better.
shee·ple
/SHēpəl/
noun DEROGATORY (not necessarily and I take some offense with that)
— people compared to sheep in being docile, foolish, or easily led.
“by the time the sheeple wake up and try to change things, it will be too late”
It’s a badge of honor to be sheeple.
Mask up everyone the quicker we comply the sooner it will pass through.
My body, my choice. Unvaccinated and unafraid.
Spent the day waddling around Orange county, Anaheim California Disneyland on July 23rd 2021. No mask wearing required. Estimate only about 10% or less of a guest and 30% of cast wearing masks.
People sneezing, coughing, farting and of course breathing without masks. Of course, we all know how respectful the killer virus is because whether you’re religiously (stupidly?) wearing a mask or not once you sit down to eat/drink or take a gulp of fresh air it (killer virus) knows when not to invade you (completely out of respect).
