Eureka’s Culture Commons Festival, happening Sept. 25-27, is packing so many cool things into one weekend you’ll need to treat the schedule like a choose-your-own-adventure story. Follow the sounds Friday from Red Cedar’s Native percussion to Irie Rockers reggae and the country twang of Lxs Perdidxs at Mendenhall Studios. Saturday moves from Humboldt Taiko and West African dance at Madaket Plaza to hip-hop, poetry and SoulTree at the Gazebo. On Sunday, trade the stage for Wigi storytelling at Da Gou Rou Louwi’ Cultural Center, resistance-and-resilience printmaking at Epitome Gallery, North Coast short films at Eureka Theater and swing-dance lessons at the Eagle House. The bees of summer have been busy doing the hard part, so all that’s left now is to taste the results at the third annual Honey Tasting Festival on Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Bear River Tish Non Community Center ($20, free for kids 15 and under). Sample local varieties of honey, enjoy appetizers by Brett Schuler, live music, honey-themed craft vendors and bidding in a silent auction. The festival is a great way to learn about native bees and honeybees, and also how to plant a garden that keeps these precious pollinators fed. Bees have been handling the snacks for everyone else. Time to return the favor.

Dolly Parton gave the world “Jolene,” Dollywood, singular wit and love for all of God’s children. That’s range. Celebrate her songs, heart and comic timing at A Tribute to Dolly Parton: 9 to 5 on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Eureka Theater ($10, $5 ages 12 and under). Sing Dolly classics at 7:30 p.m., then watch Dolly, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin take down their sexist boss around 7:45 p.m. Costumes are encouraged, so build that hair high enough to need its own ticket. Co-sponsored by North Coast Journal Inc., proceeds benefit the Bridgeville Community Center, which runs Dolly’s Imagination Library in Humboldt County.
