You’re fucking kidding, right? Please, tell me you’re kidding, because Wiseltier is nothing more than another neocon right wing hack whose burdensome scolding and nearly un-readable scribblings are made for mockery.
For goodness sake, he writes for The New Republic, which I understand its founding hack, Marty Peretz is now trying to buy back.
I’m not kidding! Wieseltier’s got the best back-of-the-book in the biz, with the possible exception of the NYRB, which is all back-of-the-book. As much as I like to root for the home team, Harper’s, sadly, runs third.
And the thousand-word-essay has no better practitioner in America today, besides. Much as you enjoy coloring within the lines, neoconnery has nothing to do with it. But I guess Peretz did buy the thing back today.
