“It’s still early. I’m still in the race.” — Patrick Cleary.
“This is my first time, but it’s good to be ahead.” — Ryan Sundberg
“Ooh — Downey’s taken a lead.” — Mike Hislop, reading the results
“It’s still early. We’ve got a way to go, folks.” — Mike Hislop, moments later.

Loud cheers reported at Sundberg HQ and at the Elks Lodge, host to Jackson and Downey, as the first results came in. Considerably more downbeat scenes at the Hagen, Hislop parties.

At Brick and Fire, the new restaurant on F, a cozy warm looking place with a cook in white kerchief/ hat pulling pizzas out of big oven. Drizzling rain outside. Crowd picking up inside. Josh Draydon, owner if World Cup, is here relaxing after volunteering all day and past couple weeks for Bonnie. He held several meet and greets at the cup for diff candidates (Brooks, Neely, Leonard). He says: “I really respect Bonnie’s trying to find middle class jobs for the area as opposed to minimum wage jobs.” Jim Test here: “She’s worked really hard, for decades. She has good experience and good knowledge. Look at the Board now, there are two new people, and will be one more new person in the 5th. So we really need someone with experience.” Also here: Connie Stewart, Clif Clendenen, Andy Bird…

Do you people realize you are missing the season final of Glee? They’re doing a big, giant Journey number as they head into the regional finals in the Glee competition. And yes, I’m guessing there are Glee parties all over Humboldt County tonight.
DON’T TEMPT ME
When is the Second Report, with some actual election-day votes reflected, likely to arrive, Hank. It seems to me that in past years it was a little after 10pm. Any guesses?
Just got off the phone with John Osborn. He’s going to check back with me in 5.
Glee! Don’t spoil it! I’m subscribed through iTunes and have to wait till tomorrow to download it. Journey?!!! I loved the Dream On episode the most so far.
Election results tonight. Glee results tomorrow.
And… are you having a GLEE PARTY and didn’t invite me?
Ha! Ha! I know the results of the Glee Competiton……The name of the winner is…ouch…oof….dang woman stop hitting me…..blat…spoink….Ladyfriend….you’re hurting me….Geez, Ok….I won’t tell…I won’t tell……
Yes, our party has much better food and libations than most around town. Loleta Cheese Dill Havarti Nachos and Rel’s Green Chili burritos from the Valley West Chevron station…..and Gallo Red Mountain.
Is Quinn ever going to look more than barely pregnant? Is Kirk ever going to get beyond his crush on Finn? Is Finn ever going to stay strong against his homophobic football teammates? Is Puck a good guy with bad tendencies or a bad guy with some irresistibly attractive qualities? Do we hate Rachel? Love Rachel? How does Jesse really feel? What will happen with Will? Does Sue actually envy his hair? SO MANY QUESTIONS!!! This whole election results thing is going to be anticlimatic – runoffs and all – but GLEE is NOW.
Yes, Jennifer, that’s it…keep up that obsession, Rupert Murdock loves you, yes he does…….
And, ahem, I can bet you more Humboldt residents of voting age know the names of the members of Glee than know the names of their local elected officials.
Why anyone gets all wound up about what will “happen” to characters on TV is something I’ve never understood.
But hey, don’t let that stop you from obssessing. And it could be a lot worse, you could be obssessing about which Star Trek series was the best!
TV is one of the primary storytellers of our times. And I still get caught up in novels, too…
True confession: My first boyfriend and I bonded over Star Trek (though I did grow out of it).
Because RA, TV is just that wonderful.
Honestly, lots and lots and lots and lots of people care more about Rachel and Quinn and Kirk and Finn and Puck and Jesse than Virginia, Paul, Pat, Allison, Jeff, Mike, Jon and Bonnie. Sad fact, but oh, so true.
Is it sad? I mean, we still care about Odysseus and Persephone and Adam and Eve and Romeo and Juliet and all those old, juicy stories. Fiction, written, filmed, televised, whatever, reflects, interprets and chronicles our times as much – sometimes more – than plain old historical, political fact.
Suddenly I feel like calling up Dell’Arte.
Ha! Good point, Jennifer. I would love to see Dell’ Arte perform a production based upon election night coverage from the point of view of the average Blue Lake family…….and Bigfoot.
If anyone is up to challenge, it’s Dell’Arte! Maybe they can work it into Mad River Fest….
As long as I get to guest- play the part of the clerk at the gas station where the family purchases their election night coverage comestibles and libations.
Humboldt’s last remaining newprint journalist, Hank Sims, as played by Ronlin Foreman. Now, we’re talkin’ !!!
