Proving again that she’s one of the savviest players around, Democracy Unlimited Director Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap waits until 1 a.m. on Nov. 1 to send out this press release.

Thus avoiding the Halloween jokes. Or so she thought.

EUREKA – Democracy Unlimited of Humboldt County’s (DUHC) mission is to create genuine democracy in Humboldt County. To that end the group has launched a campaign to solicit input and feedback from Eureka residents about which issues are of concern to them. For the next month and a half, Democracy Unlimited is hitting the streets of Eureka to hear community concerns, register new voters and encourage community participation in the political process.

DUHC’s six week long Canvass Project began last week. The group plans to mobilize nearly 50 volunteers in the effort. Canvassers will go into low-income areas of Eureka and neighborhoods with large minority populations.

  1. From Wikipedia: “Proles is a term used in several well-known fiction books to refer to the working class, i.e. proletariat. The term almost always implies the degraded and oppressed state of this social class in the society described.”

    Hadn’t heard that term before.

  2. Sounds like racial and economic profiling. Are they afraid what they might hear if they go to the “right” side of town?

  3. The night I went out, folks were very receptive. The questions asked are fairly broad and unbiased enough.I was supposed to go out yesterday but I had to work and couldn’t miss it because I’m busy running elections on Tuesday.
