OK, we’ll be getting this party started as soon as the Marina Center item on today’s Coastal Commission agenda goes live. All the action is in the flashy box below, assuming it works. Go ahead and type words in there.
Here’s the link to the Coastal Commission live webcast. Here’s Ryan Burns’ story in this week’s Journal, and here’s my thoughts on the matter.
UPDATE, 12:15 p.m.:The meeting has adjourned for lunch. The Marina Center item has not been heard yet. Back at 1:30 p.m. — see you then!
UPDATE, 1:45 p.m.:Er, yeah — so the break actually ends at 2 p.m., looks like. And there’ll be a good while before they get to Marina Center, too. On Twitter? Follow @ncj_of_humboldt — we’ll tweet when the thing goes live.
This article appears in Where To Surf.

Um, yeah like we need to know your liberal stance on the Marina Center. We all already know where you stand on this ok?
I am pretty sure Mike has been unmoderated for a long time.

Eureka City Council members are getting the verbal beatdown from Commission staff
What a waste of taxpayer funds!
Goddamn it.
Did any of you catch the statement Commission ED Peter Douglas made re the Ft Bragg project? He was talking about how a project can really work for everyone – proponents and other interests – when the proponent and the city take the time to work with folks who have concerns, the Coastal Commission etc. It sounded like one of those things a parent says to the good child so the misbehaving kid will hear…
problem is, if you work with the loud mouths around hear we’d have a hostel, needle exchange center, and pot clinic.
Hank, were there other admissions of ex parte communications between commissioners and vested parties? (didn’t watch, streamed data kills my satellite in interest of fair access…@$%#ers) Seems against CCC rules.
There were, but I fielded a phone call in the middle of them, stupidly thinking that there would be much more to report about. So I missed it. It’ll be archived.
Usually you disclose ex parte communications — you don’t refuse to have them.
Hey Sims,
Nice piece of G33k3ry. Thanks for keeping the locals in the loop.
The goddamn thing kept going into "Standby mode" by itself, though. Will investigate.
I would argue that if you were really trying to provide an objective and fair hearing you would refuse ex parte communications. Unfortunately, I think we know this is not the case. a disclosure of who got what info from who would be informative to your readers, maybe. Also, why would Neely refuse to disclose who she has had communications with? Failure to disclose prior to hearing would violate CA Public Resource Code and Government Code.
