Officials said the raids did not involve legitimate medical marijuana clinics or growing operations, which are allowed under state law but not recognized by federal agencies.
“Medicinal marijuana is supposed to be medicine and not a large-scale business operation,” said narcotics bureau spokeswoman Sara Simpson. “When large quantities of cash begin to change hands, crime and violence soon follow, and that will not be tolerated by law enforcement.”

Ms. Simpson’s comments are quite intriging, especially in making a distinction between medical and commercial operations. Could this be the start of the feds gearing up for a new boss (and programmatic shift away from medical marijuana-related enforcement) come next January?
Typically federal operations come in phases, the follow up phase once they have established a bulkhead here with their own satelitte equiptment, communications and rental RVs, could very well be the smaller grow houses and clinics. This isnt over.

the FIRST busts turned out to be small medical grows. the bust in arcata yielded 20-30 plants, according to the Times-Standard. sounds like a small-time grow to me.

It’s entirely possible that the house in Arcata could have been only a small part of a much larger (grow) operation.
I wouldn’t put it past the commercial growers to always have a few small sacrificial operations going in local neighborhood locations, knowing that law enforcement will more easily find and hit those operations first, thus deflecting attention away from the larger operations going on elswhere.

more houses have turned up NOTHING than have turned up plants. so far, less than 100 plants have been reported siezed.
100 plants, in humboldt county? there are MILLIONS of plants being grown and they get only 100?
you obviously have no clue of the pot industry. it is becoming obvious that the feds dont either, so dont sweat it. just keep hoping for a police state. youll get it.

I don’t believe that mister was making a connection to anything. I think you read a bit too far into what was said, which was that it is a possibility that maybe the houses that they are targeting are part of a larger operation, and that’s all. It doesn’t sound like it was directed at anything having to do with civil rights or any other political issues what so ever. Where you think that he was trying to make any kind of connection puzzles me.
It might help if you step off your soap box once in a while and try to remember that not everything you hear or read has a political tone or theme to it.
Also, since you seem to have such a vast knowledge of how the pot industry works versus anyone else who blogs here, why don’t you share your knowledge with the rest of us. Who knows, maybe if you can teach those of us who are so vastly more un-educated then you about such things, the world would be a more perfect place for all of us.
why are people saying that this is one big operation? what is the connection? 6 plants in whale gulch, 20 plants in arcata and a few empty houses in shelter cove consititutes a giant grow operation?
im not being political at all, im asking what the connection between these people is….if you have no info, you are just speculating.

I hear what you are saying. And who knows, you may be right about the bust so far being only small independent grow operations.
However, just as with mister’s statement, unless you have some way of verifying for sure that what you say is indeed true and factual, then aren’t you also speculating about it just as he did?
One thing that I think we all do know sure is that in order to protect the integrity of their “investigation”, the Fed’s are not going to give anyone the full complete truth about what they’re up to, even after it’s all over.

its a small world in humboldt county.
each of the searches (remember, these arent busts) that ive heard of involved small time growers. family friends were searched, nothing was found. they had no relationship with the woman who was found with 20 plants in arcata. they had no relationship with the raid on humboldt hill. i want to hear this connection that everyone is claiming. its all a lie until i hear otherwise.
Per the news release reported in the ER:
“Over the course of Tuesday’s activity, officers located around ten thousand marijuana plants estimated to be worth between $25 and $60 million on the street.”
That’s two orders of magnitude higher than “a hundred plants.” So, either the feds are seriously exagerating, which I would not be surprised if they were doing a little (i.e., that works out to a median value of $4250 per plant, a theoretically possible but highly unlikely return), or there’s much more going on here than the handful of “small growers” to whcih several of you apparently have some person acquaintance or contact.

where are the plants? i havent seen pictures. no one has reported nets full of plants being flown or driven out of anywhere.
the only reports of plants being taken are 20-30 plants on virginia way in arcata and 6 in whale gulch.

theo, think Villica LLC, a business consortium set up to buy land across the emerald triangle that illegally builds without permits and grows pot for commercial interests. It is all connected with the Oakland warehouse bust recently that exposed the group. Shortly there after Schectmean, of Gallegos fawning fame, sold his interest in the business. This is speculation but makes more sense than anything else I’m reading. I mean it was just a matter of time before this happened after that came out in court.
oh, they’re probably not that interested in plants, theyt are looking for paperwork and evidence that links the suspects together and to the alleged crimes. you know conspiracy. that’s how you bust any organized crime. It’s not the murders or what have you, its the tax and conspiracy laws that put them away.
