Johanna Rodoni, a local cattle rancher, executive director of the Buckeye Conservancy and a former county supervisor, attended a meeting of the Humboldt County Fair Association Monday evening before getting arrested for allegedly driving under the influence. Rodoni is a longtime member of the fair association’s board of directors.

The board meeting adjourned at about 8:30 p.m., at which point the public was asked to leave while board members held a “private social hour,” according to Caroline Titus, editor/publisher of the Ferndale Enterprise, who attended the meeting.

Titus, whose husband Stuart Titus was ousted as general manager of the fair board earlier this year, said she didn’t know whether Rodoni consumed alcohol — or even attended — this social hour Monday night, but she said drinking is common at these gatherings, which have become a regular post-meeting occurrence.

In fact, Titus felt compelled to snap a picture (below) of libations on a bar top at a fair association meeting this past spring.

At 10:30 p.m. Monday, Rodoni was pulled over by a Ferndale Police Officer on State Route 211 near Substation Rd., between Ferndale and Fernbridge — roughly three miles from the fair association’s office. According to FPD Sgt. Adam Strieker, Rodoni was pulled over for failing to stay in the correct lane and was subsequently transported and booked into the Humboldt County Jail.

Following the death of her husband Roger Rodoni in 2008, Johanna Rodoni was appointed to fill his 2nd District seat on the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors by then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. She mounted a reelection campaign as a write-in candidate that year but lost a tightly contested three-way race to Clif Clendenen. In 2010, Johanna Rodoni ran for county assessor.

A call to Rodoni was not immediately returned.

  1. Is this here we go again with the beginnings of another Judy orchestrated Progressive mob smearing the name of another Republican. Let’s see, if your Paul Gallegos, the Proggies boy in office, you can commit plagiarism as the County’s highest law enforcement officer, but if you’re a Republican or if you’re running against Paul Gallegos, you will get your name plastered all over the NCJ pages for several issues of the most concentrated nasty political hit pieces ever written in Humboldt County, only matched by ones aimed at Rob Arkley, and before him, Paul’s opponent for office, Worth Dikeman. And as the Gallegos going scott free of political attack for the exact same offense Dan Johnson has been crucified in the NCJ and Prog blogs for, because Dan, like Worth, was a political opponent of a Prog agenda that wants to remove all Republicans from Humboldt County offices, we can see Hypocrisy writ large over ever nasty Prog comment aimed at Dan Johnson or the next Prog political target du jour. Removing political opponents by character assassination, Judy Hodgson’s forte now at her yellow northcoast journal.

  2. There is nothing political about drunk driving, Eric. Please don’t use these serious social issues to further your political agenda. You will find plenty of opportunity to do that elsewhere. I read this article because I was interested about the drunk driving not for your or anyone else’s politics.

That being said, I’m horrified that the fair board is apparently using quality liquor to create mixed drinks!!!

  3. Humboldt honey, how sad for you. You have to wake up everyday and actually live with yourself. I can’t imagine the nasty inner dialogue you must have in your snarky small mind. I personally refrain from attacking people when they are down. Johanna rodoni has given more to humboldt county than you ever will, whoever you are. Keep in mind (the very nasty mind you possess) that what comes around goes around. I love Johanna and am proud to stand by her no matter what. That’s the truth. So go ahead and call people names. The best thing about you is you take yourself with you when you leave. (Roger taught me that one)

  4. Gilbert, did I say anything about politics? I was responding to an inappropriate comment about her appearance in the photograph. And for the record, while I did support her run for Assessor, she and I are almost always at odds politically. What do you imagine my “political agenda” to be?

  5. Oh, Gilbert, I think you were responding to Stephen. The name of the poster on this format appears below the post, not above it.

  6. I just love it when people go on non stop ugly rants but don’t sign their names. Who, for example, is Stephen1? The thing about these spittle covered blasts is that they so rarely have their facts together. Example: Dan Johnson was only faulted for his plagiarism and his attitude problems because he is a Republican. Oh, my, the mind boggles….
