North Coast Congressman Jared Huffman announced this morning that he “feels the Bern,” but is endorsing Hillary Clinton in her bid to become the country’s next president because he feels she has a better chance to beat the “terrible GOP candidates” and trigger a Democratic wave that wins back both the House and the Senate.

In a post to his personal Facebook page, Huffman explained that he appreciates Democratic challenger Bernie Sanders’ “positive, authentic, progressive message and especially his relentless focus on addressing income inequality and fixing an economy that is rigged against the middle class.” But the congressman said he’s also been very impressed with former Secretary of State and Senator Hillary Clinton and the “strong positions” she’s take in recent months on trade, climate change, environmental protection and gun violence, adding that she is “uniquely qualified to be president.”

“Considering the terrible GOP candidates, the imperative of winning in this very consequential election cycle, and the opportunity to create a wave election in 2016 that returns both the Senate and the House to Democrats, I believe Hillary is our best candidate,” Huffman wrote, adding that he’s giving Clinton his endorsement and pledging his support as a “super delegate” to her at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia next July.

To my friends who have been urging me to endorse Bernie Sanders for President, and to those who have urged an endorsement of Hillary Clinton, I have an announcement.

I like Bernie very much and definitely “feel the Bern” in terms of his positive, authentic, progressive message and especially his relentless focus on addressing income inequality and fixing an economy that is rigged against the middle class. His candidacy is a very good thing for our country and he has already impacted the race in positive ways. Plus, I enjoyed travelling with Bernie and his wonderful wife Jane to Chile last year on a “co-del” focused on human rights.

I’m also very impressed with Secretary Clinton, especially the strong positions she’s taken over the past couple of months on trade, climate, environmental protection, and gun violence. She is uniquely qualified to be President, and her very strong performance in the debate and the sham Benghazi hearing reassures me that her candidacy is only gaining strength. And, as a bonus, I think our country would benefit from electing a qualified woman at long last to be our President.

Considering the terrible GOP candidates, the imperative of winning in this very consequential election cycle, and the opportunity to create a wave election in 2016 that returns both the Senate and the House to Democrats, I believe Hillary is our best candidate.

For that reason, and with lots of respect for Bernie, I am endorsing Hillary Clinton and pledging my support as a “Super Delegate” to her at the Democratic convention. I wanted those who are interested in this to know of my decision and my reasoning.

  1. I wonder what Huffman thought of:

Clinton’s criticisms of Obama’s diplomatic efforts with Iran, ushering-in Kerry and an agreement?

    Clinton’s desire to bomb Syria?

Clinton’s support of the Iraq invasion and occupation?

Clinton’s silence while her husband destroyed AFDC hurting thousands of children while Clinton’s head of HHS resigned in protest after a 30 year career?

Clinton sitting quietly on Walmart’s board while they bust unions, cheat workers, and discriminate against women?

Clinton plays the silent good wife while her husband appoints Wall Street CEO’s to the U.S. Treasury?

Clinton says nothing while Bill supports radical corporate deregulation with the “Collateralized Debt Obligations Law”, the “Commodities Futures Modernization Act”, “Financial Services Modernization Act”, repealing Glass-Steagle, all leading to the 2008 collapse? What does Ms. Clinton say now???? Zzzzzzzz

Clinton attacks whistleblower Edward Snowden but doesn’t trust the government with her own e-mails?

Clinton says, “we can talk about how they got that way, but first we must bring America’s teenage super-predators to heel” while the U.S. incarcerates more people, including children, than any other industrialized nation?

How is a Clinton family political dynasty good for America?

Democrats turn to the right and lose voters, then, they turn further to the right and lose more voters, they found a First Black President with good progressive rhetoric that turned to the right, and NOW expect a First Woman President to perform the same magic?

When Huffman waxes sincere about his “reasoning”, he’s leaving a lot out.

Fool me twice, shame on me!

Sanders is packing the stadiums for a reason Mr. Huffman.

  2. Thank You Congressmen Huffman,
You letter is truthful and heartwarming. I share your views that this election is too fragile to lose.
Endorsements are a important part of the election process. It indicates a willingness to work with the candidate and can create harmony in the party. Hillary appears to have 150 of the 190 democrat house endorsements and 33 of the 44 democrat senators,13 of the 14 woman democrats, also endorse her.She will be a good match and a strong leader for our party.
She also has the knowledge and good judgement to run the US Treasury and The Pentagon
    Thank You Again

  3. COWARD!!! Bernie Sanders is honest, straight forward, and cares about people. HRC? NOT. I say to you, stay with her. But then, when Bernie wins, where will you be?

  4. If the majority of your constituents vote for Bernie in the primary, will that change your vote as a superdelegate? I feel that, with your vote and endorsement having so much power, it would be unconscionable not to follow the lead of the voters that keep you in office.

  5. Yikes! Rep. Huffman, we need leadership for the 21st century! $ and presidential elections, Global warming! I’m filling out my ballot right now and am so sorry to be reminded you’re supporting HRC. You’ve been on ‘the good foot’ and have worked so hard to meet important issues. Bernie has been consistent for more than 30 years, fighting injustices & standing up to corporate power (Greenspan, example). The climate is not favorable for HRC; very transparent the votes were stolen, especially after Nevada and solidified my opinion, very disappointing to witness. Please re-consider. I cannot vote for a war hawk.

  6. Not only are you a COWARD but you are WRONG! What don’t you understand about if Bernie is more popular than that gold-digging woman and everyone who admires him votes for him, he wins. He also beats Trump because no rational Republican is going to vote for HIM. And there ARE rational Republicans. But you prefer to go with a Republican, and a dishonest one at that, instead of Bernie? You are not a rational being. Sorry I can’t vote against you in your district. I would in a split second. I don’t care if a cat were running against you, I’d much rather have a cat–they are very honest. I give you credit for being honest about your cowardice. But that’s it. Nothing else honorable to mention.

  7. Vote OUT $HilLIARy Super Delegates Jared and Alice Huffman…..OUT of Office! These two Party-Backed Politicians pledged to Billary a Year and a Half Ago but then they try to sound like they “appreciate” Bernie. Hillary has re-written History by Stealing every one of Bernie’s Ideas! Now she acts like she thought of them. Vote IN BernieCrat Erin Schrode for Representative of District 2 CA. http://www.today.com/news/erin-schrode-25-…
