  1. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Wayne Knight passed away due to complications of PNEUMONIA! Do not spread these lies!

  2. Hank, as we discussed by phone the Department of Health and Human Services has said only that a man who tested positive for H1N1 died yesterday. We did not identify that man or his cause of death. Thanks.

  3. Heather — sorry, sidetracked for a moment before I was able to post. Here’s where we stand, as far as I can tell:

Humboldt State says that Professor Knight died of H1N1 complications at Mad River Hospital yesterday morning. DHHS says that a man died yesterday morning at Mad River Hospital, and that that man had tested positive for the H1N1 virus. DHHS knows of no other H1N1 deaths at Mad River or anywhere else in Humboldt County yesterday.

DHHS has a very strict interpretation of HIPAA law, and so is touchy about appearing to have released someone’s identity. At no time did Heather or any other DHHS staff release Mr. Knight’s name to me. They merely reported an H1N1 death; Humboldt State filled in the blanks later.

  4. Best teacher I had at HSU. Very thoughtful, extremely helpful, personable, talented. Im a teacher at CR and now I use a lot of what he taught me. Peace

  5. I am deeply saddened about the passing of Wayne. I knew in Hermosa Beach Calif. In the late 60?S when he was attending Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Bch. Calif. I was in Grade school at the time and very young. He was the Rhythm Guitar Player in my Brothers Surf Band THE CHECKMATES. He was a profound influence on me in Playing guitar myself and I still play all those old surf songs to this day. I used to love to pick up his Fender Mustang and play it when he left it at my house. I recently re-connected with him and we talked about those days and my brother and the band.. He will be missed. I always respected him and looked up to him as Im sure all his students past and present did..
