Around 60 people gathered in front of the Humboldt County Courthouse this afternoon to show public support for women’s health rights and Six Rivers Planned Parenthood. Signs, honks and pink were plentiful.
Simultaneously, across town, three members from the local 40 Days For Life campaign stood quietly in front of SRPP’s driveway praying for an end to abortion. Today is Day 15 of their 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. public appeal to God.
Earlier today, SRPP announced they had raised over $12,000 as part of their Pledge-a-Picketer campaign launched in response to the 40 Day crowd. For more on this, check out our previous coverage.

men shouldnever have a vote in womens health issues.
Remind me not to vote for Lance Madsen
Vote for women’s rights to kill kill kill. On the conveyor belt they go. Kill Kill Kill. Faster than serial killers, mass murders, and guns. Kill Kill Kill.
Just thought I would come up with a planned parenthood anthem for you.
I was proud to be out there helping fight for women’s rights. We should all be grateful for such a supportive community and all the great folks at Six Rivers Planned Parenthood.
Pray to end abortion? I wish religious people would take that approach to everything they don’t like. There would be less suffering spread in the world (spread by religious people). Keep it to yourself in your own mind, people!
It doesn’t help at all to make blanket statements about “religious” people, most of the ones I know not being fundamentalist Christians but religious people of several different traditions as well as Christians, all of whom are directed by their conscience of what the Spirit teaches human beings. Fundamentalists follow the path of blind faith placed in the religious doctrines of ancient dead men none of them nor history knows about except for their stories in the Bible. Thinking people cannot do this–place blind faith in ancient dead men’s ideas and morals just because these unknown dead men said so using God and their religious traditions as proof of God’s guidance in a circular argument that is quite irrational–hence needing blind faith to maintain. Plus great amounts of fundamentalist religious propaganda pumped in through the radio and TV shows as well as in the church sermons. Mass advertising going on most of the time in fundamentalist circles that Abortion is Wrong and so we see the results in the streets. Not so very different from radical activism in the way these extremist ideas get carried into mob actions.
Anyway, just thought I put my two centuries into the arena and let you know it’s not the “religious” that’s the problem but overloaded recipients of propaganda, i.e., bad information.
For example, I know of a former Planned Parenthood administrator holding a M.A. in theology and I’ve never thought twice about abortion being the “slaughter of innocents”. If it is, then God’s the biggest and busiest abortionist around since most every single women capable of bearing children has had a spontaneous abortion in her life. If God aborts a fetus without the woman’s conscious knowledge of it, why try to criminalize her for doing it consciously is the question that should arise but never does in fundamentalist Christian minds.
Why not? Because they aren’t paying any attention to logic but to those dead men who told them in their Book that they would go to hell if they don’t believe the dead men’s words. So that’s the basic fear propelling these blind faith believers to act out the ideas of ancient dead men who have successfully created a world run by zombies, effectively brain people bombarded with massive amounts of religious or secular propaganda in the case of radical activists. It works. The Church and Madison Ave and Earth First! found that out long ago. Our elections run similar.
Neat trick to use anti-abortion rights rally against them with the pledge drive. Kudos to Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood is not only about providing pregnancy termination services. women are able to recieve birthcontrol, annuals and many more important health related services that are needed. Also the choice to terminate a pregnancy at the apporpriated time is nobodies business and the only person who should have the decision making authority on the matter is the women who is pregnant.
