A press release from the office of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, reproduced here, announces that the outgoing governor has appointed the Fortuna Mayor Pro-Tem to fill Bonnie Neely’s former seat on the California Coastal Commission.
This article appears in At Last.

At least Arnold got something right and gave a big FU! to Lovelace. Divisiveness and extremism are poor qualities for potiental appointees.
Jerry Brown will undo this within a week.
Doubtful in the extreme. No politician in his right mind would open his administration with such a shitstorm over so little, and then there’s this.
A shitstorm? Brown will face a shitstorm from his political allies if he lets this appointment stand. You think Brown is going to let Arnie get away with making an appointment he had no business making, on the eve of Brown’s inauguration? You also fail to take into account that this seat on the CC is not just Humboldt County.
Hank,
You do know, don’t you, that the Brown transition team has been interviewing candidates for this seat? Why would they bother if they intended to let Arnie’s appointment stand?
Hmmm, OK! Maybe you’re right.
The discussions that Brown’s people have been having were to find a Lovelace replacment in the unlikely event that Mark was able to connive his way in with Arnold. These conversations have been very informal and nominal in nature. Brown is very unlikely to make any change soon and there is absolutely zero chance, as in none whatsoever, that he would pick Lovelace.
Anonymous deposits a “big FU,” and then complains about “divisiveness and extremism.”
Ahh, shitstorm. I love that word. Is there a more polite term that conveys the same je ne sais quoi?
Jerry Brown blew up oakland like condo-loft-apartment city, and bullied the homeless out of sight in select districts to keep things looking squeeky clean. He was pro-military academy.
Everybody’s shaking hands behind closed doors. Look at the biggest picture of what’s physically happening toward the California’s future in more rural areas like Humboldt…widening the freeways, subdividing and zone changes, key position appointments to expedite the process…it’s more cattle culture, feeding the beast. Capitalize on an ever-exploding population by packing em’ in, diluting everybody’s everything in the wake of nature’s generational shift. In another 10 years it’s not going to be baby boomer land anymore at all…but the gentrified generation x’ers. That’s politics and social economics 101. Everybody in the capital knows this, but it would bury their careers to talk about it…public awareness isn’t part of their plan. As far as they’re concerned, our best interest is being content (complacent) while we shop at target and surf craigslist and teach eachother how to deal with the rich getting richer while we continue to have less.
Clusterfrak?
It’s funny. Now that the (outgoing) Governor has made his appointment, the rage spilleth over – yet In fact Pete Nichols and Mark Lovelace were on the radio defending the governor’s right to do so…so long as Mark was the appointee.
But now that the Gov has made his appointment – and it is not Mark – they are pissed. Saying that the Governor should not have done this. Yet they attacked Jill Duffy for saying exactly that.
This was the Governor who promised to do away with all these commissions and committees….and that never happened.
But at least this time, he made a good choice. Ken Zanzi, congratulations.
“the rage spilleth over”? Rose tends to talk about herself as she points at others.
bzzzt! WRONG. Oh, Joel. I am laughing. Surely even you see the irony in this one. Twenty ways from Sunday, it’s rife with it. From Lovelace himself trying to get in with little or no notice, to the Governor appointing with little or no notice, to the boys saying it was FINE to make the appointment to now it’s not, to the Governor who said he would eliminate appointments (especially high paying do-nothing ones) and didn’t… c’mon, it has to tickle your funny bone.
Sorry Rose, but you are as confused about irony as you are about everything else.
Rose, who are ‘the boys’? Would you please name them and what you are quoting them as having said?
“From Lovelace himself trying to get in with little or no notice, to the Governor appointing with little or no notice,”
Zanzi seemed to be notified in plenty of time to do the necessary paper work.It isn’t his or Lovelace’s fault that Jill and a few others didn’t pay attention.Regardless, the idiot governor should never have been the one to make this appointment.

On facebook,Mark Lovelace wrote,”
Out-going Governor Schwarzenegger has appointed Fortuna Councilman and 33-year Fish & Game veteran Ken Zanzi to the Coastal Commission. Of the 4 city nominees, Ken is certainly the best qualified, and the only one who actually followed any process. My congratulations to him. Now we’ll see what Jerry Brown chooses to do.”
Yep Rose, surely Mark is in the midst of one hell of a rage.Yep it is spilling over big time!
Jerry’s transition team is also considering closing down HSU because it is a major espense in an area that has had its economic importance to the State whittled down to nil.
“Experts” at such things are predicting the next decade to be one of extreme anger among voters. That includes the North Coast. The days when a vocal minority making its living laundering money from pot plantations appeals to young voters as being somehow daring and cute is running up against some hard facts. No money, no jobs, shrinking pools of social services.
I’m planning to go join the Bushville residents planning to set up a homeless camp amongst the apple trees in Fortuna where one liberal supervisor is going to practice what he has been preaching and open his land to those in need.
“Yep Rose, surely Mark is in the midst of one hell of a rage.”
And for your information Rose, that’s irony.
By what means was the Coastal commission created? An act of legislature? What year? What Gov. signed off? Does this commission get erased by the same means?
The Coastal Commission was established by a voter initiative in the early ’70s while Ronald Reagan was governor. If you want to “erase” it Davee, knock yourself out.

— ok then, that settled that, man I love when people stick to facts.
Zanzi is a good choice. He went through the process the way he was supposed to and is fully eligible, despite what Lovelace partisans try to claim. Brown has no reason to replace him. In the unlikely event that the appoint was re-opened, Lovelace would be no more successful on his second try than on his first. HCAOG rejected his bid once and the current BOS would not unilaterally nominate Lovelace the way the last one did.
Mark Lovelace’s gracious congrats to Zanzi, from T-S letters this morning:

Gee Bob, how could that be? According to Rose, Supervisor Lovelace is foaming at the mouth.
