Yes, absentee results skew conservative, but these are bad, bad numbers for progressives. Cleary excepted.

  1. Jackson’s early lead over Gallegos is from mail-in ballots. Among those voting at the polls, Gallegos leads 56%-43% so far.

Same thing happened in the primary: Jackson started out ahead with more mail-ins, but Gallegos was ahead among those voting at the polls, and as that trend continued, eventually his tally overtook hers as the results from the polls began to outweigh the early results from the mail-ins.

  2. Of course, the info all of us (or most of us, anyway) are missing, is WHICH precincts have reported.

By the way, as of this First Report, Prop 19 is losing by a substantial margin in Humboldt, both in mail-in and votes at the precincts that have reported so far. Whowouldathunkit !?

  3. Prop 19 losing by about 10 points so far, both in Humboldt’s First Report (mostly mail-ins, but Prop 19 also losing among those precinct votes that have been reported so far) and among those CA precincts that have reported at this point.

Maybe the big-time commercial growers and prison guards can host a joint victory party, as both groups stand to profit immensely from a few more years of Pot Prohibition.

  5. Hey TRA from the first report you can tell that the Arcata and Eureka precincts were not reported, and Southern Humboldt was, so you might deduce something from that.

  6. Oops and Measure Q had precincts reporting, which is Northern Humboldt and since Arcata precincts weren’t reporting in the City Council, I would guess those measure Q precincts reporting would be Orick, etc. So, hmmm, maybe the (more) rural areas of our County are those that have precincts reporting.

Also since they said it was going to be a long night, you could anticipate more votes to count in the bigger cities due to the general population numbers.
