“This is a farewell kiss!” the man, identified as Muntadar al-Zaidi, a reporter with the Cairo-based network Al Baghdadia Television, yelled as he threw the shoes… Zaidi started to yell “Dog, dog!” as he was surrounded by security agents, who tackled him to the floor and began to beat him… Zaidi, colleagues said, was kidnapped by Shiite militiamen last year and was later released. Throwing a shoe at someone is considered the worst possible insult in
Iraq
, and is meant to show extreme disrespect and hatred towards someone.”
This article appears in Election Atlas.

shrub is still pretty quick on his feet. Too bad the dude missed. Insult is not really any good unless shoe touches target of your hatred.
The draft? The shoes? He’s an artful dodger.
Zaidi had good aim. He would’ve hit Bush square in the face had the war criminal not ducked.
Too bad. Bush could’ve gained a little sole, the old heel. Confronted with his arch enemy, Zaidi was right in step with his beliefs, which were understandably laced with angst and retribution.
Zaidi was no loafer. Nor did he flip flop on his beliefs.
I thought it was pretty cool Bush ducked the shoes. I don’t know that I could have done that.
There is a movement afoot for folks to ship shoes to Bush.
Who knows, maybe your shoe will be “transferred to the National Archives by the Gift Unit, and become part of a presidential library museum collection.” Or maybe it’ll just be thrown away. Such are the guidelines for domestic gifts.
Thanks for the link AJ. Why should Iraqi journalists be the only ones with an opportunity to throw a shoe at that jerk?
This reminds me of Darryl Cherney’s song about sending pretzels to George Bush. It goes something like this:
Send George Bush a pretzel
Send one every day.
Send it with best wishes
And send him on his way
OK!
The guy is a local hero now for being brave enough to make a statement, the Presidents life was not threatened so this seems like a pie in the face… man we look like tools to the rest of the world.

If the Shoe Fits….
He’s used to having a foot in his mouth, but not a shoe.
I’d throw a lead boot! Or ten…
