I’ve been watching a series called "Island at War" on DVD, a miniseries about the Nazi occupation of the British Channel Islands during WWII. The asshole in this video reminds of me of the Nazi occupiers. In fact it was a deja vu experience, after watching several hours of the miniseries, to watch the same sort of treatment in the video Hank posted here.
The officer in this video is a poor example of an American. And he makes a mockery of what our military should stand for.
I’d like to think this is a staged training film of what “not to do” or a controlled experiment in “humiliation” as a motivator. Otherwise, it fits into the stereotype of military culture as a brutalizer of feelings.
Certainly the speaker knew he was being filmed, so he’s not a renegade.
Clearly, the speaker is repeating in style, tone, and content, the type of talk he’s heard before. I wonder how different this speech is from incentive talk some sports coaches give to teams that are losing?
If every potential military recruit saw this clip, would it deter or encourage signing up?
calling a spade a spade. No point sugar coating it, they need to step up and fight for their country. I like how he called the officers out for never going on patrol. Humiliation is a great motivator especially when if you quit you get your head chopped off or family blown up.
sorry but this is a war and there’s no place for incentive hand holding seminars and deep-emotional thought exercises.
with a bunch of pussies like them Americans would have a queen and judges with white wigs.
I see a Marine leading. War ain’t pretty people. You can’t be all nice and lovey dovey trying to train a bunch of lazy asses who won’t defend their own families from their own people. If you think you can do better, I challenge you to do so.
Good luck.

Longest 5 minutes of my life just watching that on youtube.

There’s leadership and there’s assholery. Can you spot the difference?

What the video shows me is that our military leadership has lost it in Iraq. This officer demonstrates that.
