The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors announced today the appointment of Kevin Hamblin to the position of Director of Planning and Building.
For the past three years, Mr. Hamblin served as the Community Development Director for Del Norte County. Prior to that, he was the Director of Community Development with the City of Eureka for 25 years. From 1981 to 1984 Mr. Hamblin worked as a planning assistant and Director of Planning for the Humboldt County Regional Planning Commission in Winnemucca, Nevada.
While with the City of Eureka, Mr. Hamblin’s department handled all of the permitting for the application of the Bayshore Mall, which passed on the 1986 ballot by 85 percent. It stands as one of the few regional shopping centers in the coastal zone and required an environmental impact report, one of the first-ever completed by the City. In addition, Mr. Hamblin directed the permitting of Eureka’s Target store, also in the coastal zone, organized the City’s Historic Preservation Commission, and was involved with the Eureka Boardwalk from start to finish, among many other projects.
“We are very pleased Kevin will be leading our Planning and Building Department,” said Virginia Bass, Chair of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors. “He possesses an extensive professional background in planning and building on the North Coast, and has overseen many significant projects that give him in-depth knowledge of our area.”
Mr. Hamblin earned a B.S. in geographic planning from Brigham Young University in 1979. His first day with the County of Humboldt will be Nov. 13, 2012.

Anyhow, too bad actually since Martha Spencer deserved the chance to not have to continue as a subordinate again being forced to do things incorrectly by a CDS director who serves not the community, but the higher pecking order of government, regardless of educational background or experience.
All one has to do is connect the political back-scratching dots between Eureka sleeze elitists and County sleeze elitists. Not an unbiased choice either, but hey, Virginia’s shmooze talking is one for the ages and is very effective sounding for those who pay no attention (because either they don’t involve themselves with CDS processes AND/OR there exists those private sector con artists whom are actually part of the politically rigged set-ups engaged in by enough public employees).
Nothing is “lock-set” to be better folks with CDS (perpetual history suggests the critique). This is gonna be like the last time (Girard for Conlon) WHERE musical chairs between localized political jurisdictions are played in hopes to continue the secrecies, non-transparencies and the vicitmizations of those citizens and potential development projects that public employees have abused in the past and are still fighting with today all-the-while attempting to continue to abuse new people on a daily basis.
Everyday, there are signs of failure in America…this is yet another example of why politics is failing AMERICANS (false house-cleaning that only the gullible types could fall for). Virgina is a great soldier, but the political maneuverings and shmoozing she projects through her commentary is appropriately fake at times and overly melodramatic, especially those longer durated extensions of any words that are used to shmooze over those who are gullible; for example, “bought and paid for elected officials campaigning for president right now are commiting the shmooze talking with extended voice overs on any word when needed to show false caring”.
Hmmm, maybe now the Marina Project gets done? Question looming is, HOW? Answer: when any politician wants what they want (or what they are told to want), it is simply too easy to not hire whom you want that will do what you want. The back-dated history suggests there already is a political connection of whom will do what when told by those currently in power. It just so happens that the political landscape of Eureka ten years+ ago has shifted over to new positions in the county TODAY, a sorta of musical chair transfer of Eureka interests being subjected upon all-of-Humboldt County. That ought to go over well, not! – HOJ
