Centro del Pueblo has launched an “ICE-Watch/Migra-Watch” hotline for local community members to report immigration enforcement activity.
The Arcata-based nonprofit sent out an email this morning announcing it had started the hotline — (707) 200-8091 — as a part of its Rapid Response Network, which seeks to empower community members to “observe and provide vital information and support during potential immigration enforcement activates in Humboldt.”
Specifically, the Rapid Response Network’s goals are to help monitor enforcement agencies “to ensure accountability,” support those in need, “foster a united community ready to respond collectively,” document enforcement activity, verify reports and help make sure local community members know their rights and can connect with available resources.
“Observers do not intervene in enforcement activities but play a key role in documenting and reporting,” the email states.
The email also urged residents to join a virtual workshop at 4 p.m.on Jan. 28 to learn strategies for “defending our community from threats posed by ICE, police and anti-immigrant groups, as well as rapid response tactics.” For more information on the training (and to register), click here.
Additionally, the nonprofit is hosting a “know your rights” event at 4 p.m. on Jan. 25 at the Rio Dell Community Center, 406 Wildwood Ave.
