Occupy Eureka has once again had its structures in front the Humboldt County Courthouse removed by local law enforcement.

Late this afternoon, the far left lane of Fifth Street in front of the courthouse was coned off and the sidewalk lined in police tape while the officers from the Eureka Police Department and Humboldt County Sheriff’s office loaded shelters into trucks.

As soon as the police tape came down, protesters stepped back in.

“… and it moves us all.”

Also, if you’d like some ice cream…

  1. Clue to Occupy Eureka… if you want to endear yourself to the rest of the 99% who are trying to drive home after a long day working for little money, umm, wait until after 6 p.m. to put up your tents. I ended up shunting over to 2nd street, going past the Adorni Center, driving under the bridge and then circling around to go across the bridge to get home. Not cool.

  2. Hey, protests are a PR/marketing campaign that applies pressure to elected representatives only if the protestors have a lot of people behind ’em. You have to win the people to your cause. Pissing off the people doesn’t help your cause. This should be taught in Protesting 101. Don’t piss off the people who are on your side.

  3. Be careful, folks. They use pepper spray nowadays. And batons.

A little bit more of the recent UC Davis news is at The Sentinel for interested folks. From what I can surmise, the civil problems, investigations, and perhaps litigation may be following this Pepper and Assault fiasco as numerous agencies get involved.

Think safety. There’s some kooky peeps out there.

  4. Umm, Take your complaint to the EPD. Occupy Eureka has no say in when the sweeps are conducted.

The morning TS says no arrests on Tuesday but an easy-up loaned to keep information table dry is being held as evidence. Of what, protesters trying to keep themselves and information dry?

  5. As part of the 50% who work to support the 50% who don’t, I agree there’s no need to use pepper spray on the protestors. You could get other people with the spray when the wind blows, it gets on clothes, park benches and other places where kids could pick it up. Next time use a Tazer, it’s much quicker, easier and doesn’t leave a residue that affects others.

  6. Or… the campers could refrain from erecting tents that they know will be confiscated again. Funny how you (Janelle) so quickly shift the blame to EPD. Last time I checked, tents were not a tool required to protest.

  7. Umm, use your drive home to practice your patience. You’re people at home will thank you for it. Sounds like the only side you’re on is yours. And by they way, they do teach in “Healthy Personhood 101” not to be intolerant.
