Faced with dueling press conferences, yesterday
we wondered
— how many notables would attend the California Education Coalition’s emergency summit on the proposed $4.8 billion cuts to K-12 education? And how many would instead head over to Democratic Central Committee HQ for the Patty Berg-Wes Chesbro lovefest?
Well, this reader-submitted photo tells the tale. At least
one prominent member
of the board of the Northern Humboldt Union High School District has his priorities in order. He’s going places, that one.
UPDATE:
Holy moly! Does that sign really say “Democrats — Protecting Public Schools”? Classique.
This article appears in California Improved.

What a nice photo! Your reader certainly knows how to take a picture.
Unfortunately I didn’t get around to reading your Chesbro post until today (believe it or not, I don’t usually read this blog – I only read it yesterday because Monica mentioned that you wrote something about me).
Had I known about the summit, I certainly would have chosen to go to that instead. I never saw anything in the local papers about it, I never got any emails about it, and nobody from the school district ever told me anything about it. Maybe they sent a letter and I just missed it, but it seems like someone should have called or emailed me. It’s unfortunate, because I agree with you that it was a lot more important than what I went to.
I wish you wouldn’t make assumptions about my priorities. I know you like to sensationalize everything, but sometimes you don’t have the entire story. By the way, the sign says “protecting public safety.”
Hank is ever the cynic. Did the NCJ post the news about this important educational summit on their website or e-mail anyone about it? Why those hypocritical, self-aggrandizing blankety-blanks, for such a blatant setup. Tsk.
Now, back to work. Both of you.
It’s 5:10 p.m.! I’m off the clock!
For the record, even if it does pain me to admit it, I can see why someone would the event if it were only noticed on the Blogthing. But y’all do read the Times-Standard, don’t you?
That article is from today! I don’t always read the Times-Standard in the morning. I was contacted about Wesley’s event well before today. Like I said, I wish someone had contacted me about the other event. I certainly would have attended that one instead.
So… from now on, Hank, I’m putting you in charge of these things. The district doesn’t provide me with a secretary, so you can help me out instead. Please contact me every time there is an event that you think I need to know about. Thanks.
What’s up with this crap Hank? Apllying for a job with Arkly or maybe the Republican National Comittee?
Yeah, yeah. If I’m not with you, I’m with the terrorists.
Hank, by picking on Shane, you are helping the terrorists.
Hey! At least no one is commenting on this thread about Larry and Rob! Opps. I blew it.
Septic tank theory of politics. The bigger the turd the quicker they rise to the top. The really big ones will even rise again.
Boo flippn hoo Shane.
If you are going to be a public figure, you’re gonna have to learn to take the bad long with the good.
And if you are going to be on the school board, than I think that you should be going to the ed summit instead of brown-nosing it with Berg and Cheesebreath.
Now we know who writes the word “Oops” as “Opps.” Richard Marks!
