John Charles Moore passed away unexpectedly on December 2nd, 2025.
He was born John Charles Ratzlaff on April 19th, 1949.
In his youth John was a boy scout and an acolyte (alter boy) at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Sacramento.
John worked and saved money to complete his degree as a full-time student at UC Davis, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Viticulture in 1976.
John retired from CalTrans Division of Rail and moved to Eureka.
John had a strong work ethic, a passion and talent for fixing, repairing and building things and valued antiques.
John was concerned about the effect of human population growth on the Earth’s environment. He was generous by nature, was close with his neighbors.
John never married or had children. John was preceded in death by his father, Donald Ratzlaff, and mother, Noma Moore Ratzlaff.
John is survived by his sister, Mary Hall; niece Wendy Corby and nephew Nathan Daily.
John chose to be cremated and scattered at sea without a memorial ceremony.
