George Allan Hurt


January 5, 1930 – September 22, 2025

George “Jim” Allan Hurt, 95, a longtime resident of McKinleyville, California, passed away September 22, 2025, in McKinleyville, California with family by his side.

George was born on January 5, 1930, in French Camp, San Joaquin, California to George and Ruby Hurt. George was enlisted in the Army of the United States on February 6, 1951, to December 19, 1952, in the Korean War, serving his country with honor. George Hurt moved to Humboldt County, where he married the love of his life, Margie Irene Hurt, on May 14, 1966. They were married 45 years.

Following his military service, George pursued a successful career in Dinuba, California, as a dairy worker and then continued on as a janitor at McKinleyville High School. He also worked at Simpson Timber Company in Korbel, California, and Simpson Lumber Mill in Blue Lake, California, and Mad River Lumber of Arcata, California.

George was a man of many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed working on his ranch, gardening, and working out at the gym.

George often walked thirty miles in a week with his late wife, Margie Irene Hurt, while pushing her in her wheelchair. George had a total of four hip replacements in his lifetime. They both enjoyed their walks around McKinleyville, CA, rain or shine, and were known as “The McKinleyville Walkers” from the community of McKinleyville. Every year they looked forward to being in the Pony Express Days Parade in McKinleyville, always waving to everyone and meeting new friends. They both were well known in McKinleyville, California.

George was a dedicated member of North Fork Full Gospel Community Church in McKinleyville, California.

George is preceded in death by his wife, Margie Irene Hurt; his parents, George and Ruby Hurt; and seven of his siblings — Nita Dills, Laura Carter, John Hurt, Betty Ruff, Ina Riddle, Lula Hurt, and Donna McColloch.

George is survived by his sister, Joyce D. Ketner, and his eight children: Thomas Hurt and (Angela), Sandra Kolar and (Clarence), Guy Hurt and (Kathy), Sheri Hurt, Kim Hurt and (Carrie), Jimmy Hurt and (Larisa), Tony Hurt, Andrea and (John Dresch). Nine grandchildren: Joshua Hurt and (Tara), Cynthia Rodriguez and (Felix), Kimberly McGowan and (Phillip), MacKenzie Hurt, Jayden Hurt, Melissa Boyd, Steven Pigeon and (Jessica), Bradley Hurt, Stephanie Martin and (Justin); and eight great-grandchildren.

George was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him. His dedication to his country, family, and community leaves a lasting legacy.
