Contrary to what was printed in last week’s “Town Dandy” column, it was KHUM, not KHSU, that broadcast the Bay Stewards’ debate between candidates in the recent election to the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District. The Journal regrets the error.

The charity that Ferndale artist Jack Mays helped found was misspelled and somewhat mischaracterised in last week’s “Art Beat” column. It is known more precisely as the “Amaysing Grace Foundation,” and its purpose is to assist Ferndale families who must travel out of the area to get medical care for their children. The Journal regrets […]
Clarification
Miscommunication between reporter and source led to an inaccurate characterization of one business’s attitudes toward the Bayshore Mall’s Calvary Chapel Church in last week’s cover story ("Mall Town," Sept. 24). As it turns out, the person Heidi Walters interviewed at Gianni For Men about the church was not a "co-owner" of the store, as he […]

A picture of the Paradise Royale Mountain Bike Trail on page 23 of last week’s issue was inadvertently attributed to staff writer Heidi Walters. Actually, the photo was taken by Joey Klein. The Journal regrets the error.
CORRECTION:
Last week’s story “The Coming Flu” inaccurately reported that in California about 36,000 people die each year from seasonal flu. In fact, that is the estimated number of flu-related deaths per year in the nation, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The number is an estimate, not an exact count. The Journal […]

Last week’s story on the Northcoast Environmental Center’s financial travails, "The NEC’s Subprime Mortgage," incorrectly identified Don Tuttle as a former Humboldt County public works director. In fact, Tuttle was deputy director of that department, not the director. The Journal regrets the error.
CORRECTIONS:
Last week’s story on Lake County medical marijuana martyr Eddy Lepp contained an error concerning Lepp’s federal prison sentence (“Pot Hero,” June 9). The story stated that Lepp’s received the “maximum sentence under the law”; in fact, Judge Marilyn Patel gave Lepp the minimum sentence possible under federal sentencing guidelines. Because of an editing error, […]
Due credit
The photo of Rick St. Charles dressed up like a burglar and acting goofy on page 7 of last week’s Journal should have been credited to Matt St. Charles. The Journal regrets the error.
Giant boo-boo
Planning Commissioner Scott Kelley was misidentified as the commission chair and was said to have a daughter, Sarah, at Zane Middle School in last week’s story, "Giant Circus Tent." In fact, both the chairmanship and the daughter belong to Commissioner Jeff Smith. The Journal‘s Ryan Burns feels like a dipshit about the errors.
Credit gaffe
Last week’s "Media Maven" erroneously credited The New York Times with uncovering a Central Intelligence Agency-run network of secret offshore prisons for detainees taken in the "war on terror"; in fact, the Washington Post broke that story. The Journal regrets the error.

“For the first time in many, many years, Humboldt County’s unemployment rate had just slipped beneath the state average,” stated the Jan. 22 edition of “The Town Dandy,” referring to the Dec. 2008 figures collected by the California Employment Development Department. In point of fact, this turns out not to be the case. A review […]
Mistaken identification
In last week’s Arts! Arcata guide, two works of art were mistakenly attributed to other artists. A painting by Richard Quenzer (shown at Arcata Co–op) was wrongly credited to Ken Jarvela. A painting by Patricia Sennott (shown at Meridian Fine Art Gallery) wrongly credited to Susan Fox. The Journal regrets the errors.
